How to Use Whipped Tallow on Your Face: A Simple Guide

So you bought your first jar of whipped tallow… now what?

If you’re used to traditional face creams and lotions, tallow can feel a little different at first. It’s rich, concentrated, and you need way less than you probably think.

Once you figure out how much to use and when to apply it, the routine is actually incredibly simple.

Here’s exactly how I recommend using whipped tallow on your face.

Step 1: Start With Clean Skin

Start by gently cleansing your face like you normally would.

You don’t need to completely dry your skin afterward. In fact, I prefer applying tallow while my skin is still slightly damp.

Why?

Whipped tallow doesn’t contain water like a traditional lotion does. Applying it over slightly damp skin gives you some moisture to seal in and can leave your skin feeling softer and more hydrated.

Step 2: Use a TINY Amount

This is probably the biggest mistake people make when they first try tallow.

You do not need a big scoop.

Start with about a pea-sized amount or even less for your entire face.

Whipped tallow melts quickly with your body heat, so warm it between your fingertips for a few seconds before applying.

If your face feels really greasy afterward, you probably used too much.

You can always add more. Start small.

Step 3: Gently Press It Into Your Skin

Once the tallow has melted between your fingertips, gently massage or press it into your face and neck.

I especially like concentrating it anywhere that tends to feel dry, like around the cheeks, forehead or mouth.

Give it a few minutes to absorb before applying makeup or getting into bed.

Your skin should feel moisturized and comfortable, not like there’s a thick layer sitting on top of it.

Should You Use Tallow in the Morning or at Night?

You can use whipped tallow morning, night or both, depending on your skin.

If you’re new to tallow, I usually recommend starting at night.

Apply a small amount after cleansing and see how your skin feels the next morning.

If your skin loves it, you can start using a tiny amount in the morning too.

For daytime, you’ll probably want to use even less, especially if you’re applying makeup afterward.

Can You Use Tallow Every Day?

Absolutely, if your skin responds well to it.

Some people use tallow twice a day, while others only reach for it at night or whenever their skin feels dry.

There isn’t one perfect routine for everyone.

Pay attention to your skin.

If it feels soft and comfortable, you’re probably using the right amount. If it feels heavy or overly oily, scale back.

What If You Have Oily or Acne-Prone Skin?

Having oily skin doesn’t automatically mean you can’t use tallow.

But if you’re acne-prone or tend to clog easily, introduce any new facial product slowly.

Start with a very small amount a few nights per week and see how your skin responds before making it part of your everyday routine.

I always recommend patch testing new skincare first, especially if your skin is sensitive or reactive.

What Tallow Should You Use on Your Face?

When it comes to facial skincare, simpler is usually where I like to start.

If you’re brand new to tallow or have particularly sensitive skin, an unscented whipped tallow is a great first choice.

Our Pure Whipped Tallow is our simplest option and is made with grass-fed tallow and jojoba oil.

If your skin already does well with essential oils, you can explore our other whipped tallow blends too.

The most important thing is finding what your skin likes.

Do You Need a Whole Skincare Routine With Tallow?

Nope.

And honestly, that’s one of my favorite things about it.

You don’t need to suddenly throw away everything in your bathroom or build a complicated 10-step routine.

Your routine can literally be:

Cleanse → leave skin slightly damp → apply a tiny amount of whipped tallow.

That’s it.

Of course, you can add other products based on your skin’s needs, but skincare doesn’t have to be complicated to be effective.

The Biggest Tip I Give First-Time Tallow Users

Use less than you think you need.

Seriously.

Whipped tallow is concentrated because it doesn’t contain the water found in traditional lotions and creams.

Start tiny, apply it to slightly damp skin, and give your skin a little time to adjust.

Once you get the amount right, you’ll understand why one little jar can last so long.
